Our story begins at Bible Study! It was my first time participating in one with my church Southeast Christian Church-Southwest Campus in 2016. I was feeling a little nervous as I looked for a table to sit at. I spotted a kind looking pre-teen sitting at a table by herself. We had both arrived fairly early so I thought, I'll sit with her. We introduced ourselves and Gracie was one of the most pleasant, and thoughtful kids I had met. The next week her mom Jamie was able to attend the study and happened to mention she was a caregiver for senior citizens. Little did she know, I was looking for a part-time caregiver to assist me!
We talked about it after study one week and both decided we are exactly what each other needed at the time! So our working friendship began; and on some occasions Gracie was able to come "to work" (Jamie always says that helping me was fun and didn't feel like work) with mom! My heart grew quickly to love Jamie and her kids!
In Mid-2017, I mentioned to Jamie how I had sensitive and itchy skin, and had a difficult time finding a soap that helped with these concerns. She told me about a goats milk soap she created and a business she had for a while. She let me try some of the Unscented soap she still had on hand. I absolutely loved it and helped my skin feel so much better.
Early that fall, she offered to give us the recipe and take it as far as we wanted. So on a beautiful October morning I learned how to make soap by hand. Elalia, a lifelong friend of Jamie's who also knew how to make the soap was gracious enough to let us use her garage to make my first few batches! My dad, John, learned the process as well.
Dad and I had been discussing names for the business, and I came up with "John's Daughter Soap Company." We both loved it!
So with the foundation Jamie gave us, my family and I continue to pray over the business, expand it, and dream big! We can never thank her enough and even named a soap in her honor...Jamie's Grace (Eucalyptus Mint).
A special thanks to Jamie's husband Mark and his staff at B & K printing for designing our logo and supplying business cards!
I would have never guessed going to Bible Study that first time, not only would I grow in my faith, but gain life-long friends I think of as family!
